We Believe It Is No Accident You Are Here, and We Have Been Praying for You.
Lutheran Church of Hope has one mission: To reach out to the world around us and share the everlasting love of Jesus Christ. We have a vision to be powered by the Spirit to bring Christ to all cultures, revive the world with God’s love and make heaven more crowded! Hope Waukee is focused on our relationship with Jesus Christ and our relationship with each other. As a congregation, although large, we have a small-town feel where families and individuals can connect and deepen relationships with one another. We are a family-oriented congregation with thriving youth ministries. Our youth ministries truly set the tone and, in many ways, lead out our mission for our campus. We are constantly amazed at the growth we have seen year over year in our youth programs and view youth not as the church of the future rather the church of the now.
We believe God is moving in big ways in the Waukee area. We have seen growth in our congregation not only from families in the Waukee area but continue to see more families from neighboring towns as well. We offer opportunities for anyone to get connected no matter your age or stage in life. At Hope Waukee we also believe we are called to serve as led by the example of Jesus Christ. We partner with many local food pantries, thrift shops, camps and beyond.
How Did We Get Here?
Hope Waukee was established as a congregation in the fall of 2014 due to a growing need of creating more room in West Des Moines and seeing incredible growth in a western suburb—Waukee. More than 220 members gathered at the first informational meeting on May 2014 and began work to launch this new campus within six months.
Hope Waukee began its ministry by holding two services in a gymnasium at a newly built elementary school, Shuler, in the Waukee School District. Within 10 months the congregation was growing and had the opportunity to move to its permanent location, where in about 18 months the congregation began renovations, started a preschool, began missionally to partner with local nonprofits to serve within the community, and supported global missions in partnership with other campuses of Lutheran Church of Hope.
Our Building
We are in a large building off Hickman Road in Waukee between Dartmoor Drive and Westgate Drive (305 NE Dartmoor Dr., Waukee, IA 50263). We have great spaces available to accommodate the amazing things God is doing through our congregation. Our Worship Center seats 800 and is where we worship on weekends. Our student ministries also use the Worship Center and fill the building on Wednesday nights. Another popular space is the Crossway that can hold up to 200 people and is our prime spot for our children’s ministry on Sundays. Our Atrium is a common gathering spot for our community meals and Sunday morning coffee and donuts. It has many tables and chairs and offers a place for families to sit and connect with others. We have numerous other large and smaller classrooms that hold small groups and our Hope Waukee Preschool from Monday-Friday. We also have two classrooms for our nursery available on Sundays and other dates depending on events held in the building.
Our Staff
Pastor Patrick Quaid was Lutheran Church of Hope Waukee’s lead pastor until the summer of 2024 when Pastor Jon Anenson moved into the role after Pat returned to the West Des Moines campus. Jon continues to build a team of ministers and ministry leaders who organize the multitude of ministries and events. To learn more about the staff at Hope Waukee, check out our Staff page.
